Book Of Shadows
This is a combination of spellbook, demonology and history. It should be an accurate record of the spells and rituals you use, and their results. It should also hold research information, insights you have had, facts and figures on subjects such as astrology, elements, herbs, crystals, etc. It may also contain a list of stores and order houses where you can obtain items that you cannot make or grow yourself.
You can use a three-inch binder, divided into two sections, each with A-Z index tabbing. The first section contains researched information. The second section holds "working" information, such as rituals, spells, healing items, formulas and other basic instructions. On the inside cover it is customary to write a book blessing. This is done for both protection and dedication purposes of the information therein. Take some time to think about how you would like to word this blessing, then transfer it to your notebook.

Candles
In witchcraft, they have a dual purpose - firstly as representations of the deities and elements, and secondly in spell/ritual work. You will be working your way through a lot of candles, but the beauty of this is that they are very cheap, especially if you buy in boxes. It’s a good idea to keep a stack of red, green, yellow, blue and white candles, plus one or two of orange, black, pink, purple and different shades of blue and green.

Crystals
These are used to form a crystal cage, which repells demons and warlocks. You do this by putting five cydarite crystals, oriented in an east-to-west circle. They will have the ability to create a cage of light with the power to contain a demon or warlock and reflect their powers back to them.

Symbol: Pentagram
This is a five pointed star which is commonly associated with witchcraft, and takes many forms - use an actual pentagram made from twigs and twine, or draw one on a sheet of natural paper or glass. Many witches like to wear a pentagram. It is a symbol of our religion, but it is also worn for protection and connection with the elements represented by the five points - Spirit, Air, Water, Earth, Fire. The pentagram on your altar is the focal point, it is where you place your tools for consecration and conduct your magical workings. It is also a tool of meditation, and corresponds to the direction North, the element of Earth and its energy is female.
